Transmission of a living heritage

Featuring 70 authentic traditional buildings, this reconstituted Alsatian village will show you what the rural Alsace of the past was like and how people lived.

Walk down the streets of the Ecomusée d’Alsace, lined with pretty half-timbered houses, and see farmyards, washhouses, barns and a variety of typical scenes of village life.

Go into one of the workshops to rediscover the traditional trades. You’ll be amazed by the skill of potters, blacksmiths and plenty of other craftsmen, as they demonstrate their crafts for you. This heritage is also illustrated through a rich collection of nearly 40,000 objects from everyday life, such as furniture, clothing, tools and other souvenirs that bring a different time back to life.

A schedule of events that follows the seasons

For every special period of the year, the Ecomusée d’Alsace gets decked out for a wonderful programme of festivities, where folk traditions take centre stage.

Old-fashioned Easter egg hunts at Easter time, the traditional Cortège du Feuillu procession on Pentecost Day, a harvest festival, summer night celebrations, evening events at Christmastime, bredle-making workshops: with each season comes a profusion of events and unique surprises, to experience and share!
