The Stork and Otter Centre in Hunawihr

A 5-hectare site to explore

Located in Hunawihr, on the Alsatian Wine Route, the Stork and Otter Centre occupies a 5-hectare site. It is home to more than 150 storks, and since 1991 has been the site of France's first European otter breeding centre. Visitors can explore the site on foot, via a path which winds its way around the park. Surrounded by numerous landscaped pools, along the trail visitors can also discover various species of ducks, geese or coypus. The glazed tunnel also provides an opportunity to enjoy an underwater view of the otters' activities, as you watch them swimming or resting. Finally, around 20 species of fish native to Alsace are also presented in six aquariums.

Aquarium fun and entertainment

In addition to the natural entertainment provided by the animals living in the park, each afternoon visitors can watch presentations of fish-eating animals. Among these, you can discover the way the methods used by otters, cormorants, seals and penguins to catch fish. Finally, a large-screen projection room shows snapshots of the secret life of storks and otters.
