A former fortified village
Located in a magnificent mountain setting, La Petite-Pierre is an outstanding village to be visited in the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park. This village is a former fortified town which once looked out across the Lorraine plateau, and whose influence can still be appreciated from its architecture. The village is divided into two very distinct districts: the modern part, which is built around the main street, and the fortified old town which is perched up on the rocky headland. The village grew up around the castle belonging to the counts of Lutzelstein, whose name means "little stone" in German. Today, the castle is home to the headquarters of the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park.
