Industrial tourism: The Iron Museum, the Museum of History and Industry

Reichshoffen: a village with a proud industrial history

The village of Reichshoffen has been associated with the metal industry since back in the 18th century. It was here that the amazing saga of the De Dietrich family began, who went on to build a huge industrial empire during the 19th and 20th centuries. This family began by producing cast iron and bar iron before specialising in the production of industrial, urban and domestic equipment. De Dietrich has since sold off its business activities in the rail equipment and electrical household goods sectors, to focus instead on chemical equipment.

The Iron museum and the Museum of History and Industry

The museum introduces visitors to the region's long and proud history in the metal industry, from prehistoric and Gallo-Roman times through to the modern production era of the 20th century. Here, you can discover bronze items, craftsmen made products, and all kinds of household items (casserole dishes, pans, toilet fittings…) or industrial goods (cables, rails, chassis, etc.). The museum's ground floor also tells the story of the village back in the Middle Ages, and the rise of the metal industry in the northern Vosges area.
