The TNS (Théâtre National de Strasbourg)
A very special legal status
Based in a luxurious building in the heart of Strasbourg's imperial district, the Strasbourg Theatre was founded in 1968. Since 1972, it has had the status of "National Theatre", something which is virtually unheard of for a regional theatre, (currently, Brittany is the only other region to possess a National Theatre). Presenting 15 shows each season accounting for more than 200 performances per year, the Strasbourg National Theatre (the Théâtre National de Strasbourg or the "TNS" as it is often known) offers a diverse and highly attractive programme. Extremely committed to the defence of contemporary artistic expression, the TNS offers a unique theatre venue and organisation. This prestigious building in Strasbourg is home to a permanent company of actors, to the Ecole Supérieure d'Art Dramatique (Advanced School of Dramatic Arts) and two performance rooms. More recently, the Espace Kablé which is based in another building, has added two additional rooms to this performance venue including working and rehearsal rooms, administrative premises and workshop areas for the creation of scenery and costumes.
