The Schoppenwihr park in Ostheim

A romantic English style garden

Covering a surface area of 40 hectares, this romantic English-style garden includes water features, rare tree varieties, castle ruins and wildlife. Created in the 18th century, it was upgraded around 1850 by a Scottish landscape designer before being restored in the early 20th century by Achille Duchêne. Numerous plane trees and exotic tree varieties can be admired on its extensive lawns. The most fascinating areas of the park are definitely its huge alleyway of 66 plane trees, not forgetting the small island in the middle of the pond, which provides a quaint reminder of the four "demoiselles" of Berckheim.
