The Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park

An amazing example of natural diversity

Enjoy a lungful of clean fresh air in the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park. This is one of the largest nature parks in France, and is home to an extraordinary mix of fauna, flora and landscapes. Visitors can travel through its pastures where they will discover aromatic plants and flowers which only grow at this altitude.

The combination of geological features and climatic differences have together created a surprising natural environment here. A number of (occasionally very steep) cliffs and rock faces stand in contrast to the rounded peaks of the hills. These rarely exceed a height of 1300 m, but include all the features you would expect of a high mountain environment with its rich plant life and streams. Occasionally, the snowy peaks can even be admired through to the summertime.

A site of human activity

The park has also seen its fair share of human activity in times gone by, an activity which has left its mark on the area. Being rich in ore, the Vosges subsoil has seen a great deal of mining activity. Mines from this period can still be seen today. The park also bears the scars of the First World War including the shelters and the battlefields which can still be visited today.

Discovering the park

There are so many ways to discover the park, including paragliding, mountain biking, or simply on foot. During the winter, more than 20 different resorts provide a great opportunity to enjoy your favourite snow sports.
