The Pagan Wall

A legendary site

The Pagan Wall is one of Alsace's most mysterious sites. Even the construction date of this strange wall is a matter for debate. Some scientists estimate that the wall was created 10 centuries before the birth of Christ. The reason for building the wall also remains shrouded in mystery: was this some sort of enclosure for animals? A defensive fortification to ward off invaders? Whatever its purpose, the wall definitely exudes a strange aura. It is difficult to avoid being carried away by the atmosphere of this haunting site, which features a curious combination of light and shadow. The Pagan Wall stretches for almost 11 km all of the way around Mont-Sainte-Odile. A path enables visitors to explore the wall during an exciting walk.
