The Lac Blanc (the White Lake)

The crystal clear waters of the White Lake

The Lac Blanc (the "White Lake", which takes its name from the colour of the light sand which lines its bottom) is situated at an altitude of 1055 m near Orbey. It occupies a natural glacial circular depression, surrounded by rocks and fir trees. A number of open-air activities can be enjoyed here. In addition to the 600 km of hiking trails marked out by the Club Vosgien, we should also mention the 250 km of Mountain bike trails, the orienteering route and an adventure park. During the winter time, this is also a "Ski France" rated winter sports resort, offering ideal conditions for alpine skiing enthusiasts.

The legend of the White Lake

The lake is overlooked by a fortress-shaped rock known as the "Château Hans". According to legend, a cruel Lord lived in the castle which once stood on the rock and terrorised the local population. Today, the "Château Hans" is first and foremost an excellent lookout point from which to admire the White Lake.
