The third highest peak in the Vosges mountain range
Situated at an altitude of 1364 m, the Hohneck overlooks the valley and its lakes, providing a wonderful opportunity to admire the Hautes Vosges, from the Donon to the Ballon d’Alsace, in addition to the Alsatian plain, the Black Forest and, further still, the Alps. The area is raked by strong winds, which provide a constant reminder of nature's supremacy.
The Alsatian Alps
The Alsatian part of the Hohneck has a distinctive Alpine character, as seen with the fauna and flora to be found here. Several herds of chamois live in close proximity to the Vosges cattle, which feed during the summertime on the grass growing along the Hohneck's gentler slopes. Glacial corries offer the perfect environment for lakes and peat bogs. During the winter, the Hohneck's Alpine environment makes it a paradise for skiers and other winter sports enthusiasts.
