The Sauer Delta

The second largest nature reserve in Alsace

As the second-largest nature reserve in Alsace, the Sauer Delta is also one of the most diverse. The natural environment is truly outstanding here, and includes jungle-like forests, floodable grasslands and the tributaries of the river Rhine. It is here that the waters of the Rhine end up whenever the river breaks its banks. The Sauer Delta nature reserve is probably one of the last remaining sanctuaries for many native Rhineland animal and plant species. During a stroll here, visitors may come across a number of rare and protected species including egrets, swans or salad burnets.
