A wild, unspoiled forest
This nature reserve which was created in 1989 offers a marvellous opportunity to hikers and other nature specialists to discover an outstanding natural environment. On the Alsatian side of the Grand Ventron you will find one of France's best preserved wild forests, chiefly comprised of fir and beech trees. This rich and diverse forest environment with its abundance of bilberries has enabled the grouse to make its home here. Lynx have also been regularly observed in the forest.
Hiking at its best
The many trails which crisscross this 1600-hectare nature reserve make visiting the forest simple and enjoyable. Hikers and ramblers can easily pass from the wild Alsatian forest into the beech groves of Lorraine, which was logged commercially up until a few decades ago.
