A "must-see" attraction for all painting enthusiasts
Devoted almost exclusively to painting, the Mulhouse Fine Art Museum features European paintings dating from the late Middle Ages to the 20th century. It is housed in the Villa Steinbach, built by a manufacturer of toiles peintes (painted linen) in the 18th century. Including works by Bouguereau, Isabey, Géricault and Jongkind, the artists of the 19th century are particularly well represented here. Religious paintings from the Middle Ages in addition to works by Pieter Bruegel the Younger, Teniers, Ruysdael, Boucher and Courbet are also on show. Finally, visitors can admire an excellent series of paintings by Léon Lehmann.
