A thrilling electrical adventure
The EDF Electropolis museum traces the history of a fascinating scientific adventure: that of electricity. This story begins back in antiquity, and continues through the centuries including the many experiments, discoveries, theories and inventions involving electricity, finally arriving at the present day where everything is now electrical! Visitors are invited to participate in the very experiments once practised in the 18th century and to observe strange electrical phenomena at first hand.
New exhibition areas with shows, collections of unique items, domestic appliances and special effects all help the visit to discover the incredible story of electricity, which completely revolutionised our lives in the 20th century.
The jewel in the crown of this museum's collection is without a doubt an incredible Sulzer-BBC steam-powered generator, bearing witness to the golden age of the Universal Exhibitions. This 170-tonne machine (with its wheel measuring 6 m in diameter!) is operated several times a day, accompanied by a multimedia exhibition.
