The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art

A huge collection of works, covering the period from the Impressionists through to the present day

Created in 1998, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is a huge, modern building standing alongside the River Ill. It is home to a vast collection of works including paintings, sculptures, decorative artistic items and stained-glass windows covering the period from the Impressionists through to the present day. The "historical" part of the collections (spanning the period from 1870 to 1960) gives the visitor a good idea of the main artistic movements during these years, including Impressionism, Postimpressionism, Art Nouveau, Fauvism, Expressionism and Surrealism, etc. The museum regularly makes new acquisitions and organises new temporary exhibitions bringing visitors a complete overview of current artistic trends. On the first floor of the museum, the terrace of the cafe and restaurant provides a magnificent view over the river Ill and the Petite France district.
