Romantic locations
Alsace is first and foremost famous for its incredible architectural diversity which you can discover during the course of your trips throughout the region. With its canals, its bridges and its ancient half-timbered houses, "La Petite France" is certainly one of the most romantic districts of Strasbourg. This former fishermen's, tanners' and millers' district is the perfect place to enjoy a stroll along the canal. In Colmar you could also take the time to visit the town's "Petite Venise" (Little Venice) with its traditionally styled houses, its former market hall and its small canals branching off from the river Ill, marvellously capturing the atmosphere of days gone by. During your stay in Alsace, if you have the time then pay a visit to the charming town of Wissembourg. Its ramparts, its former monastery built during the 13th century and its old houses dating back to before the 18th century are all historical masterpieces. In addition to the sheer beauty of its villages and traditional districts, Alsace also offers a concentration of castles the like of which cannot be found elsewhere in Europe. In the marvellous decor of the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle for example, visitors can discover how knights once lived. With amazing views over the Alsatian plain and an impressive feast hall to be enjoyed, the life of the lord of the manor must have been anything but dull!
