Alsace boasts an extensive range of landscapes guaranteed to delight nature lovers. Definitely a "must see" feature, Mont-Sainte Odile provides visitors with an incredible view from an altitude of more than 750 m. According to legend, Odile, who was born blind and was abandoned by her father, recovered her sight on the day she was baptised. Ever since, this site has been a leading centre for pilgrimages not to mention a popular destination for hikers thanks to its many marked-out trails.
Although Alsace is generally well known as a leading French region for the production of white wine, it also has plenty of water! Proof of this can be seen with the Nideck waterfalls which are a tiny corner of paradise here in Alsace. At the top of the waterfall, visitors can admire the ruins of two castles, perched at an altitude of 530 m. Several paths lead to the waterfall site, making this one of the favourite hiking destinations in Alsace.
Located at an altitude of approximately 1000 m, the Lac Blanc and the Lac Noir (the White Lake and the Black Lake) offer a splendid setting. High cliffs surround these two lakes, from which you can enjoy an impressive view. Around the Ballon d’Alsace, the Lac de Sewen and the Lac d’Alfed are definitely well worth a visit.
