Time-old Alsatian know-how: glassware, pottery and traditional fabrics
Why not begin by purchasing a marvellous set of earthenware featuring the renowned "Obernai" decorative scheme, which will remind you of your visit to Alsace whenever you sit down for a meal. In the area around the Haguenau Forest, you can also acquire coloured pottery products from Soufflenheim or Betschdorf. You'll be spoilt for choice when confronted with the huge range of terrine dishes, pitchers, moulds or Baeckeoffe dishes. For its part, the village of Mutterholtz near Sélestat is famous for the weaving of kelsch, a natural linen fabric featuring a chequered pattern or blue and red stripes. Tablecloths, curtains and cushions are all made using this traditional fabric. In Wingen-sur-Moder, (where you will also find the Lalique factory), a range of attractive glassware is produced, guaranteed to brighten up any table.
