Delicious food products to take home with you
Without a doubt, the leading Alsatian speciality food product is the kougelhopf. This brioche-like bakery product with its unusual shape can be found in any Alsatian bakery shop throughout the year. If you have a taste for unusual cheeses, be sure to pay a visit to the Munster valley or to the Vosges to stock up on the area's excellent farm produced munster cheese, which is simply mouth-watering when sampled with a sprinkling of caraway seed. Not far from there, you can also find the region's delicious fir tree honey. Most of the beekeepers producing this honey are located in the Hautes Vosges region of Alsace, around the towns of Le Bonhomme, Freland, or Bourbach-le-Haut. Visitors with a sweet tooth simply won't be able to resist Alsace's Bredele (or Bredela), which are small Christmas cakes sold on the Christmas markets or in a number of confectionaries. Finally, lovers of fine food can take the opportunity to purchase genuine Alsatian foie gras in Ribeauvillé, Strasbourg, Soultz-les-bains or Ichtratzheim. Alsace is the traditional home of this refined pâté dish produced from goose or duck's liver.
