Whether you're a sports fanatic or simply looking for a change, why not discover Alsace on foot! The region offers many hiking and rambling trails, from the Vosges hills to the banks of the Rhine, not forgetting the Alsatian plain. The hiking network is vast, with clearly marked-out trails and well-planned hiking routes. The thousands of possible route combinations will take you off to discover the region's castles and chateaus, its vineyards or its archaeological sites. Alsace's two regional nature parks alone contain 9000 km of marked-out trails. The diversity of the area's terrain enables you to admire some outstanding landscapes not to mention the area's impressive fauna and flora. For nature lovers, Alsace's nature reserves provide an excellent place to enjoy hiking while appreciating the natural environment at first hand.

Hiking and rambling with the Club Vosgien

A passion for hiking is an age-old tradition here in Alsace. Founded in 1872, the Club Vosgien is France's oldest hiking association. With a total of 34,000 members, the club handles the maintenance and signposting of almost 16,500 km of hiking trails. The track markings are easy to recognise, thanks to a geometrical symbol featuring blue, green, yellow and red colour codes. Visitors can easily find a trail offering a level of difficulty suited to their abilities. The Club Vosgien also publishes maps and detailed guides identifying and describing the marked-out trails. Additionally, it manages around 30 hiking refuges and organises a number of open-air activities and trips including skiing, snowshoeing, climbing, orienteering and mountain biking.

The Horizons d'Alsace association organises a number of highly original stays for those keen to discover the region. Thanks to Horizons d'Alsace, you can head off for a hike lasting several days, staying at hotels along the way, and with no luggage to worry about. All of the logistical aspects are handled for you as Horizons d'Alsace organises the transfer of your luggage to the next hotel while you're out hiking! The service includes the organisation of the hike, accommodation and meals. Return transport from the railway station to the hotel or collection of your vehicle upon arrival are also included. You can choose between several hiking routes, based on a number of themes including golf, wine, cycling, gastronomy, or seasonal hikes.
