Lots of river fish

Alsace is a region where people eat a lot of fish. The rivers in the Vosges Mountains are full of trout, and famous for their pike. In the Sundgau area, carp is the favourite catch. It is served up with potatoes, lemon and a glass of Riesling. It is so popular, in fact, that a tourist trail is dedicated to it: the Fried Carp Trail. In the Ried, the speciality is called matelote, or fish stew: a succulent stew of river fish such as pike, perch, eel, tench and carp.
