Christmas in Alsace

The magic of Christmas in Alsace begins on St Catherine's Day, November 25. The region quickly gets into the Christmas spirit, with more than 35 Christmas markets organised throughout Alsace's 7 lands of Christmas. The Christmas fun reaches a crescendo during the last four weeks leading up to Christmas (the Advent period), and comes to a gentle end on January 6 (epiphany).

During this preparatory period, the homes and streets are brought to life with Christmas decorations and in this fairytale setting you may well bump into the Christkindel, Hans Trapp, or St Nicolas during your travels, all legendary characters associated with Christmastime in Alsace.

As a leading French gastronomic region, Alsace is well-known for its many Christmas delicacies. Spices, foie gras, bredele, and mulled wine all provide great opportunities to share some unforgettable moments of fun and merriment.
