Alsace's eye
The Castle of Haut-Barr (which is also nicknamed "Alsace's eye") offers a spectacular view over the Alsatian plain and the Vosges. It is built on three large rocks linked by a walkway known as the "Devils Bridge" and a network of staircases which will lead you to the highest part of the building. Situated at an altitude of 470 m, in clear weather you can see the spire of Strasbourg Cathedral from here. From the original building erected during the 12th century, visitors can still admire the stately dwelling in addition to a Romanesque chapel devoted to St Nicolas. The castle was later restored and extended in the 16th century, during which the walls and ramparts were replaced.
