The Castle of Haut-Andlau

This castle perched up on the hilltops offers a great view over the vineyards and the Black Forest. Built in the 14th century and inhabited up until 1806, the castle was devastated during the Napoleonic Wars. The entrance to the castle is designed based on a ''defilade" technique, which involves placing a succession of traps and obstacles in the path of enemy troops. The outer perimeter wall, the bailey and the ruined walls with their Gothic windows can still be admired today.
